Parts of a letter writing

1.Date

Normally the proper place to write the address of the writer and date is on the right hand side. This includes the door number, the street and the place. The date should be writter below the address as in

Street name
City name
the 12th May 2000

The date may be written in any one of the following way.

the 12th May 2000
May 12th, 2000
12.05.2000

2. Salutation

This refers to the form of greeting. It depends on the familiarity between the two or relationship. Its place is usually one the left hand side of the paper, near the margin,one line below the date.

Some Examples:

Dear father, My dear mom, My dear uncle, Dear brother, Dear Sunil, Hai Harish.

3. The Body of the Letter

This forms the actual communication. In personal letter one should try to be simple, natural and lively. The matter should be to the point in case of any important event to convey.

Descriptive letter should enable the reader to visualise the object described. All letters which are in the nature of discussion should be planned well and communicated properly, so as to be reflective of the original issue. Such well written letters become part of memorable literature like "A father's letters to a daughter" written by Jawaharlal Nehru and letters written to "Thambikku" by Dr. C.N.Annadurai.


4.Subscription


This is another important part of a letter. Usually, the subscriptions will be on the right hand bottom corner,but the computer age has popularised antoher position on the left hand corner. Before subscription such endearing phrases like

"with best wishes" , "with blessings", "With love and prayers"

are often used in personal letters. This is followed by complimentary concluding, such as:

1.Yours lovingly,

2.Yours affectionately,

3. Your loving mom/dad/uncle/aunt,

4. Your loving son/daughter/nephew/niece,

5. Your loving friend,

6. Lovingly yours,

7. Yours,

8. Ever your,


Note : In the subscription, 'yours' must be written without the apostrophe.
